He was born in 1979 in Saginaw and fell in love with music watching his mother tour with her gospel singing group. He eventually joined the group as a backing vocalist while a teenager. 

Harding’s professional music career began in the early 2000s when he joined the hip hop collective Proseed. While doing promotion he met soul singer CeeLo Green, who invited Harding to tour with him as a background vocalist. Through his tours with Green, Harding performed alongside high-profile acts like Outkast and Cypress Hill. Harding wrote and sang on Green’s 2010 album The Lady Killer before moving to Toronto to pursue a solo career. 

Harding then formed the blues-rock band Night Sun with Black Lips guitarist Cole Alexander and toured widely with the group in and around Atlanta, Ga. Harding released his debut solo album Soul Power in 2014, which met with rave reviews for its fusion of various disparate genres.
