When he was young, Robillard performed as Mike “Honey Bear” Robillard. He formed the band Roomful of Blues with pianist and singer Al Copley in 1967 and performed with them, including being on their first self-titled album in 1977, before leaving the group in 1979. He became the guitarist for Robert Gordon and then joined the Legendary Blues Band.
