Their debut album, Circa 2007, was released that same year. The group has gone on to release four studio albums as well as two live albums and a compilation of previously unreleased songs from the recording of the first two albums.
The inspiration for Circa occurred when bassist and vocalist Billy Sherwood, who had performed live with Yes and also been part of two albums, suggested a former Yes keyboardist that they gather an ensemble of former and current members of Yes for a project. The original working titles of the project were “Family” or “Family project.” Kaye and Sherwood decided during the recording process to create a new band and recruited drummer Alan White and guitarist Jimmy Haun, forming Circa in March of 2007.

The world premiere of Circa playing live was on August 23, 2007, performing in San Juan Capistrano and included an instrumental medley of Yes songs. This performance was recorded and released as the live album Circa Live in 2008. The group has had multiple personal changes over the years. Sherwood and Kaye still are members. Sherwood switched to guitar and bassist Rick Tierney joined the group in 2012. The drummer for the band since 2012 has been Scott Connor.
