Bob Ito became head coach for the 1981 season and would coach for ten years in the program. It was also the coach when sophomore Yumi Mordred became the first Husky NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Champion. She was also the first woman to take first place at the NCAA Championships in two individual titles, in vault and balance beam. She also won eight All-American honors.
