Reckling Park broke ground in 1999 and opened a year later. It was designed by the architectural firm Jackson & Ryan. February 8, 2000, served as an opening day when the Rice Owls faced off against the University of Houston Cougars, where the home team lost 6-2. After that game, Rice University has had much success on their playing diamond racking in an 82% winning percentage, and also made late-inning rallies a tradition in that stadium. The stadium also played home to the biggest upset in NCAA baseball postseason history when Texas Southern shocked Rice in the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
