John Jorgenson is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Wisconsin known primarily for his work with the Desert Rose Band. Jorgenson was born in Madison in 1956 to a family of musicians. He learned to play both piano and clarinet at age eight, and by fourteen had begun playing professionally. In the late 70s, he studied woodwinds at the University of Redlands, then as a young man played full-time with the Thunder Mountain Boys bluegrass band at Disneyland.

In 1993 Jorgenson formed the Hellecasters guitar trio with Jerry Donahue and Will Ray, and the group’s debut album Return of the Hellecasters won Guitar Player magazine’s Album of the Year Award. Within only a couple of years, Jorgenson had been invited to tour with Elton John’s band, with whom he would play for the next six years. In 2009 the artist collaborated with Brad Paisley on the latter’s song “Cluster Pluck,” which won the Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance.
