He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tehran and worked as an engineer for a number of years before pursuing a music career in his mid 30s.
Azimi served with the rock band Radio Tehran until setting off on a solo career in the early 2010s. He established his signature style which blends elements from rock, country and reggae music through his debut album Mr. Mean in 2013. Mr. Mean contained a number of hits, most notably “Prelude” and “Aghaye Past.” The music video for the album’s title track won first prize at the Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival. Azimi then founded the Sakkou production company, designed to support underground Iranian artists struggling under the country’s theocratic regime.
