The Mexican Banda group was formed in 1987 by clarinetist Arturo Macias in the town of Tala in Jalisco while in his teens. After recruiting friends to fill out the band, they worked hard to buy their own instruments and by 1993 had recorded their debut album, a heavily folkloric and dance-influenced collection of songs.

The group's sophomore album brought them a major hit, “Las Mil y una Noches”, before taking on the recording of their third album, Dejate Llevar, in 1995. In the following years, Como Sufro became their first gold-selling record, as well as other changes including the introduction of the costumes they have since become known for donning on stage and on their album covers.  The Mexican group exploded throughout the nineties with a string of successful ballads including “Te Amo”, “Te Quiero” and “¿Por Que Te Fuiste?” and began straying from the dance-inspired tracks from their earlier years. They have continued to release singles and albums as seen with 2020’s Mi Mexico Querido.
