The Commodore Ballroom commonly referred to as the Commodore, is in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was originally called the Commodore Cabaret when it opened in December of 1929. As the Commodore Cabaret, it closed in the spring of 1930, reopening in November of that year.
The Commodore was the site where bandleader Charlie Pawlett broadcast a show from 1936 to 1939. Sammy Davis Jr. performed at the Commodore in 1948, along with an interview performed by CKMO host Wilf Ray. In the 1950s, international stars that performed there include Duke Ellington and Tommy Dorsey.

The Commodore closed in 1996. The House of Blues took over the venue and a $3.5 million renovation was performed. A key feature of the renovation was a new hardwood dance floor.
Numerous Grammy Award and Juno Award-winning artists have performed there over the years, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Brown, The Beastie Boys, and Lady Gaga. For multiple years, the Commodore staged an annual St. Patrick’s Day concert headlined by Vancouver-based Celtic rock band Spirit of the West.
