Born in Poltava in 1973, Danylko showed a gift for the performing arts as a boy. He joined a number of theater groups while in high school, most notably the regionally-successful ensemble Compote. As a young man, Danylko trained at the Kyiv State College of Circus and Variety Arts.
In the early '90s, the artist created the character of Verka Serduchka, a flamboyant sleeping car attendant. He first appeared as the character in a Poltava comedy competition, later garnering acclaim for his stage production I Was Born for Love. In 2007, Danylko sang on behalf of Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki. His song “Dancing Lasha Tumbai” enjoyed charting success in both France and the UK. To date, Danylko has received the Award for People’s Artist of Ukraine and the Award for Honored Artist of Ukraine.
