Fortune was founded in the late 70s by brothers Mick and Richard Fortune. The group released its eponymous debut album in 1978 through Warner Bros. Records. Though begun as a hard rock band, Fortune took a turn toward pop music in the early 80s, gaining significant attention for their single “Airwaves.” The song was used on the soundtrack to the cult hit The Last American Virgin, and catapulted the band to fame overnight. Soon they were performing alongside high-profile acts like U2, Journey and REO Speedwagon.
The band’s 1985 sophomore album enjoyed significant success in Europe and Japan, though the group disbanded following the bankruptcy of Camel/MCA Records. Fortune reunited in 2006 however, and have since performed at the Rockingham Festival and alongside Kevin Chalfant. Their sound has been compared to Journey, Styx and Survivor.
