Born in Texas, she started to play the violin as a child and while still, a teenager played with Bob Wills's former band the Texas Playboys. She made her solo recording debut in 2007 with 'Being Brave' and then joined singer-songwriter Rod Picott on two 2009 albums, 'Sew Your Heart With Wires' and 'West Cross Timbers'. 'Carrying Lightning' came out in 2011 and in 2013 'Down Fell the Doves' went to number 13 on Billboard's Americana/Folk Albums Chart. 'My Piece of Land' (2016) reached number 14 on the Americana/Folk Chart, number 39 on the Independent Albums Chart and number 45 on the Top Rock Albums Chart.
The album earned her a nomination at the Americana Music Honors and Awards and in 2017 she won that event's prize for Emerging Artist of the Year. She has toured extensively with Picott and in 2017 she toured internationally with veteran singer-songwriter John Prine and sang on his 2018 release 'The Tree of Forgiveness'. She also sang on Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit's Grammy Award-winning 2017 Americana album 'The Nashville Sound'. Another solo album, 'To the Sunset', with Nashville producer Dave Cobb, was released in August 2018 and she continued her appearances at venues in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Boise, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
